BlowOuts & Bronzing: GlowOut Launches in West Loop

We had the great pleasure last week of popping in to the West Loop's new GlowOut, the brilliant brainchild of Jenn Dieas.  GlowOut grew out of Golden Girl, the boutique airbrush tanning operation Jenn lovingly started years ago.  Now she's repositioned Golden Girl as  GlowOut.  YES!  We're not kidding.  The best of tanning meets a blowout bar.  Now clients can pop in for expert airbrush tanning, blowouts, manis, and pedis.  Literally everything you need before a night out on the town.  (or a lunch meeting!  or just because!!)

Coco enjoys a blowout and champagne in the gorgeous new GlowOut space.  You feel like you're with your best friends in a chic loft-like environment.

St. Patrick's Day Beauty Tips

  1. Smokin' Green Eyes: It's all about green this weekend! Go all out with a cute green eyeliner or a sexy green smokey eye!
  2. Accessorize: Avoid all the pinching with a subtle hint of green in your accessories. Tip: Pair it with a top knot or a funky braid style to get the complete look!
  3. Go for Gold: It might be all about the the green but let's not forget about the fab pots of gold! What about a cute sparking mani?
  4. Lip Therapy: Try out one of our favorite lip exfoliators, Sugar and Butter from Jane Iredale. You know, just in case you need to kiss some cute Irish boys.

Best Hand Creams

The temperature is getting cooler, the air is getting dryer, and our precious hands are in need of some major moisture.  PrettyQuick scoped out the absolute best hand creams to keep our hands soft through the season.

L’Occitane Almond Delicious Hands

L’Occitane has the perfect travel sized hand lotions.  They come in several great classic and seasonal scents.  I literally have one tucked away in every purse I own.  The shea butter is a must have basic, but the Almond Delicious is my personal favorite scent.  They also make great gifts.

Power Ingredient: Shea Butter, Almond

Bliss High Intensity Hand Cream

Bliss makes the perfect rich but non-greasy hand moisturizer to keep hands soft and hydrated.  It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a residue.  I keep one at my office desk so I can reapply regularly.

Power Ingredient: Macadamia Oil, Grapeseed extract

H2O Plus Unscented Hand and Nail Cream

This unscented cream is extremely effective in treating dry coarse hands.  It absorbs quickly and works wonders on my cuticles.  I always have stowed in my night stand since it’s my go to before bed.

Power Ingredient: Shea Butter, Silk Proteins, Hydrating Marine Blend

1. What do you love most about being a fashion blogger?

I recently started blogging about what I’m really passionate about and that’s fashion. I am able to make my own schedule, but what I love the most is not knowing what everyday might bring. One day I might be taking pictures for the blog or talking to brands for future collaborations.

2. With which fashion icon do you identify the most?

I love the elegance Carolina Herrera portrays in every image. Somehow she's able to manage perfection with a simple white blouse. I’m also a bit obsessed with Blake Lively and her sexy, but yet classy style. Her make up is always simple, but enough to make an impression.

3. Three fashion rules you try to live by...

1. It’s okay to wear bright colors in the fall/winter. I love wearing sweaters that really pop, like red or hot pink in an effort to brighten an otherwise usually gloomy winter day.

2. Always, always, no matter how tired you might be, always take your makeup off and wash your face before bedtime.

3. No matter what the latest trend might be, it's important to dress according to your personalty. If crop tops are not your thing and you don't feel like showing your stomach to the world, don't! A woman should always feel comfortable in what she wearing.

4. What’s in your makeup bag right now?

I love this question! In my everyday makeup bag I have blush and creamy lipstick by Bobbi Brown. You'll also find my favorite foundation powder by Clinique and some Vanilla Eye Show by Maybelline that I actually use to add some shimmer under my eyes to brighten them up. I will confess I also have a travel toothbrush and toothpaste... I’m secretly obsessed with brushing my teeth.

5. Tell us which are your favorite beauty spots in Chicago.

Hair: Thomas West Salon, by far. When I first moved to Chicago I tried multiple hair salons until I found the right one for me. It’s close to my apartment, and my stylist is young and understands what I’m looking for every time.

Body: I don't frequent spas that often, but I will say I am proud member of Massage Envy. I am able to schedule a message on a monthly basis to any of their convenient locations around the city.

Skin: I actually don’t have one! But I would love to find a great place for a facial.

Makeup: Sheri at Thomas West Salon always does my makeup whenever I have an event!

6. Tell us something you learned about beauty from your mom?

“Don't be afraid to show your curves” Haha! Growing up in Venezuela the culture was the curvier and bigger, the better. I always felt a bit shy, but my mom has taught me to carry myself with confidence and love my body.

7. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I wouldn't physically change anything about myself. Does changing my cooking skills count?

8. What is one thing about yourself that you would never change?

My accent! I first learned English at a very young age and even after living in Chicago for 6 years it’s still there. It reminds me every day where I came from and I love it.

What you need to know about waxing… from a PrettyPro.

There’s more to waxing than just the wax! This week waxing guru Beth Harned from Blade Salon shares with us her favorite techniques and products to achieve the perfect wax!

What celebrity looks / style do you love?

Kate Middleton for her classic, elegant style. Katy Perry for her young, hip style and perfect eyebrows.

What do you love most about your job?

I love when I am able to put people at ease when they come in nervous for their first ever wax. People come in terrified that waxing is going to be painful and awkward. When they leave feeling like they just had a luxurious and pampering salon experience, I know I have done a good job.

Any products you would recommend for before or after a wax?

My favorite skincare products that pertain to waxing are:

  • PFB Vanish - The BEST ingrown hair product on the market!

  • Finipil - The only antiseptic cream specifically designed to use after hair removal. Not only does it help sooth and protect against infection, but it also has an ingredient that helps slow down hair growth.

What waxing tip would you recommend for every skin tone and type?

I recommend that anyone that waxes should also regularly exfoliate their skin. Even if they don't wax they should exfoliate! And I'm not just talking about your face, exfoliation is important for your body too!

Which service are your clients most requesting right now?

Where to go near Fuga Centro Salon?

Fuga Millennium Park can be a savior because of it’s location near the Loop, which typically means near the office.  Just because it’s close to work doesn’t mean there aren’t exceptional dining and shopping options in close vicinity.  Check out PrettyQuick’s picks for the best  places near this Millennium Park salon and spa mecca.

If you need the perfect shoes to go with the perfect pedi, the Akira on State Street is your shoe haven in the loop.  They carry an extensive and eclectic selection so you can find the perfect pair for the office, the park, or the bar.
